Defense Feeds – Edge Group and Indra Drive Smart Munitions into EU Market as the Dubai-based defense conglomerate accelerates its European expansion through a strategic partnership with Spanish defense giant Indra.
Announced at the Dubai Airshow, this collaboration marks a major milestone in Edge’s ambition to establish a strong presence in Europe’s rapidly growing smart weapons sector, particularly in loitering munitions, which are becoming central to modern military procurement across the continent.
The agreement lays the groundwork for a Spain-based joint venture focused on developing, manufacturing, and supporting advanced weapon systems tailored to European defense needs.
With rising defense budgets across the EU responding to evolving security challenges, the Edge Group and Indra partnership arrives at a critical moment to meet increasing demand for cutting-edge precision weapons.

The collaborative effort underscores Edge’s growing ambition to project its technological expertise beyond the Middle East.
After years of building local expertise through international collaborations, Edge is now turning its attention outward to introduce its products in one of the world’s most competitive defense markets.
Edge Managing Director Hamad Al Marar noted that the JV is designed to combine the company’s advanced manufacturing proficiency with Europe’s industrial experience.
This, he said, will enhance Edge’s competitiveness and support European nations seeking reliable, future-ready strike systems.
Indra’s involvement grows from its core role as a systems integrator, now incorporating new expertise in loitering munitions, assets that have become more critical due to their widespread use in recent warfare
Often described as “suicide drones,” these systems enable precision strikes at comparatively low cost, making them appealing to militaries seeking to modernize within tight procurement cycles.
With Europe accelerating modernization initiatives, the joint venture is expected to initially serve Spanish requirements before scaling to the broader EU market.
This aligns with Europe’s goals of strengthening industrial autonomy and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers for critical defense technologies.
The JV will leverage Edge’s design and manufacturing experience and Indra’s integration expertise, creating a production hub capable of supporting both domestic and export markets.
Its establishment also supports EU-wide incentives that encourage cross-border partnerships and collaborative research, especially in high-demand segments like autonomous weapons and precision-strike systems.

Beyond loitering munitions, Edge and Indra have signed an additional agreement expanding the scope of their existing Pulse Nova joint venture.
Pulse Nova began with a focus on radar development and will now expand to include electronic warfare (EW) systems, underscoring Europe’s increasing priority on electromagnetic superiority in modern conflict scenarios.
Electronic warfare capabilities are increasingly vital as militaries navigate drone swarms, contested airspace, and sophisticated communications networks.
EW systems are essential not only for disrupting enemy signals but also for enhancing situational awareness and protecting friendly forces.
This expansion grants Edge a stronger entry point into Europe’s advanced defense electronics sector, while allowing Indra to integrate new capabilities into its air defense, sensor, and command-and-control solutions.
Industry analysts note that diversifying into EW aligns with global trends where radar, sensors, cyber operations, and weapons systems are integrated into unified networked architectures.
For Europe, which is rapidly digitalizing its defense infrastructure, such partnerships support ongoing transformation initiatives.
Edge’s rapid internationalization through exports, partnerships, and cross-border ventures has positioned it as one of the fastest-growing defense companies globally.
Gaining a foothold in Spain provides the UAE-based group with direct access to a sophisticated defense market at a strategic moment when European nations are dramatically increasing spending in response to geopolitical tensions.
Should the venture prove successful, it might serve as a blueprint for enhanced cooperation between Middle Eastern and European defense industries.
Experts anticipate the collaboration will fast-track combined research efforts, technology sharing, and product integration, enhancing the global standing of both firms in precision-strike and defense electronics.
Once finalized, focus will shift to the JV’s implementation schedule, covering everything from establishment to product launch, and how it will position itself in the competitive European defense market.
