Defense Feeds – Textron unveils Beechcraft M-346N jet as a ready-to-deploy solution from Textron Aviation Defense, a division of Textron Inc., to compete for the U.S. Navy’s Undergraduate Jet Training System (UJTS) program.
This move comes as the Navy has recently issued several Requests for Information connected to an upcoming Request for Proposals aimed at selecting a new aircraft for their future jet training needs.
Textron, in collaboration with Italy’s Leonardo, is utilizing a well-established jet platform to fulfill the rigorous demands of training the future generation of naval aviators.

The Beechcraft M-346N is an advanced training jet, built upon Leonardo’s original M-346 design, which is widely acknowledged as a leading platform for military pilot training worldwide.
More than 100 M-346 jets operate globally, servicing elite air forces with 4th and 5th generation fighter training demands, including at Italy’s internationally recognized International Flight Training School.
Textron Aviation Defense, headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, brings American manufacturing heritage to the partnership, known for producing iconic Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft supporting military missions since World War II.
Travis Tyler, Textron’s president and CEO, underscored the fusion of heritage and modern technology in the M-346N, expressing confidence that the aircraft could become the foundation of the Navy’s undergraduate jet training program.
The M-346N combines operationally proven flight performance with advanced avionics and technology to deliver cutting-edge pilot instruction.
This tandem-seat, twin-engine jet features a state-of-the-art fly-by-wire control system with quadruple redundancy, delivering exceptional reliability.
Its flight deck includes digital displays such as a Head-Up Display and Large Area Display per cockpit, along with hands-on throttle and stick controls to simulate operational fighter aircraft environments.
Among the notable safety enhancements is the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto-GCAS), a critical feature for preserving pilot safety during intensive training.
Powered by two Honeywell F124-GA-200 turbofan engines, the M-346N achieves a top cruise speed greater than 590 knots and operates at altitudes up to 45,000 feet.
Its aerodynamic design promotes excellent maneuverability and efficient energy management, critical for replicating carrier-capable fighter operations.
The rear cockpit is elevated to give instructors superior visibility during training flights, enhancing real-time evaluation and learner support.
In addition to the aircraft’s features, Textron provides a full training ecosystem with the M-346N that goes far beyond just the cockpit experience.
The integrated training ecosystem encompasses high-fidelity ground simulators, mission planning software, computer-based training devices, and a carrier-suitable Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) training environment.
This innovative system connects live flights with virtual simulators and computer-generated forces, enabling realistic mission rehearsals and tactical engagements. A standout feature is the adaptive training powered by Artificial Intelligence.
By continuously analyzing student performance data, the system customizes training paths, automates the evaluation process, and tailors instruction to each trainee’s strengths and weaknesses.
This AI-driven approach helps maximize pilot proficiency while reducing training time and costs — critical factors for scalable military pilot development.
Textron Aviation Defense’s reputation for producing durable, cost-effective flight training solutions spans nearly a century.
Their Beechcraft and Cessna brands have supported military customers worldwide with tactical aircraft and pilot trainers since WWII.
The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II, for example, boasts a fleet of over 1,000 units globally and has amassed over five million flight hours across multiple NATO training programs and diverse air forces.
As a subsidiary of Textron Aviation Inc., Textron Aviation Defense combines decades of expertise across an extensive portfolio that includes business jets, turboprops, and special missions aircraft.
With its workforce responsible for producing over half of all general aviation aircraft globally, the company stands as a fundamental pillar of American aerospace manufacturing.
Textron Inc., the parent company, operates across multiple industries—from aerospace to defense, industrial, and finance services.
It owns powerful brands including Bell helicopters and Textron Systems, reinforcing its position as a premier supplier of advanced technologies and support for military and commercial aviation sectors.
With the Beechcraft M-346N now offered as a “ready-now” jet trainer solution, Textron is showcasing how trusted legacy brands combined with modern digital and AI-driven training technologies can ideally prepare U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviators for the demands of carrier-based fighter operations in the years ahead.
