On January 5, 2025, it was reported that Russia had officially assigned its first operational regiment of the S-500 Prometheus air defense missile systems to protect the strategically vital Crimean Bridge.

Testing in 2019 demonstrated its ability to intercept threats at a range of 481.2 kilometers, significantly outperforming U.S. systems like the Patriot and THAAD, which are limited to ranges of approximately 200 kilometers.

Utilizing 77N6-N and 77N6-N1 high-speed kinetic interceptors, the S-500 can counter ballistic missile warheads traveling at speeds of up to seven kilometers per second. Tests conducted in February 2024 validated its ability to intercept advanced hypersonic targets, such as the R-29RMU2 Sineva missile.

The S-500 also features cutting-edge radar systems, including the 91N6A(M) battle management radar and the 77T6 ABM engagement radar. These components enhance its ability to detect and track multiple threats simultaneously, even in complex environments. Mounted on BAZ-6909 vehicles, the system’s mobility ensures rapid deployment across diverse terrains.
